Snack

Snack time is an important part of our day. It is usually mid-morning and lasts for 10-15 minutes. It is a working snack, meaning students will work while snacking.  This snack will not be a break time, and will not interrupt instructional time.

It is very important that children are provided with healthy foods for their snacks. I have compiled a list of suggestions to help you with ideas. If you have a great snack idea, please email me with it so I may add it to this list!

When preparing a snack for your child please follow the suggestions below.

1.  If you send juice, it must be in a drink box or bag with a straw.

2.  Make snacks 'finger foods.'  No snacks that the child must put together such as lunchables.

3.  Please send healthy snacks that do not contain a lot of sugar.  NO CHOCOLATE PLEASE.

4.  Please do not send messy snacks that will spill or smear. (no canned fruit cups please)

5.  No greasy potato chips. (Pringles are OK)

Simple, Healthy Snack Ideas

  • Fresh fruit, cut in bite size chunks, such as apples, oranges, bananas, peaches, grapes, melons, pears, plums or strawberries.
  • Cereals, granola or snack mixes
  • Dried fruits
  • Breads or Bagels
  • Crackers with cheese
  • Popcorn or pretzels
  • Rice Cakes

Lunch and Lunch Money

nLunch is $1.25.  Please send lunch money on Mondays only.  This makes bookkeeping faster and easier for me.  You may send money weekly, monthly, etc.  Please send all money in an envelope labeled with your child's name and purpose of the money.  If your child brings a lunch please do not send sodas, glass bottles or sodas in containers.

 Miscellaneous Important Information:

*     School begins at 8:15 AM for your child.

*     The school day ends at 3:15 PM.  Any parent picking their child up earlier than 3:15 must check them out through the office.

*     Reading comprehension is vitally important.  The majority of your child's reading grade is from comprehension activities and tests on comprehension skills.  Being able to say a word on a page is not reading.  The definition of reading is to gain meaning from text.

*     It is a standing assignment that your child reads nightly.  Have your child practice reading orally (for fluency) and silently.  Ask comprehending questions.  Spend about 15-20 minutes on reading each day.  If the words are too difficult for your child to read, you read them first.  Be sure to point to each word.  Then let your child read it.  **This is very important**
